Southern Beach Tour

from $160 /person 3 days Up to 12 people

Escape to the sun-drenched southern coastline of Sri Lanka on a journey that blends golden beaches, colonial charm, tropical wildlife, and unforgettable ocean adventures. The Southern Beach Tour is our most loved coastal experience — a carefully paced three-day itinerary designed to show you why the island's southern shores are considered among the most beautiful in Asia.

Your adventure begins as we leave the busy city behind and follow the palm-fringed coastal road south. The Indian Ocean stays by your side almost the entire way, with fishing villages, cinnamon plantations, and quiet coves appearing around every bend. Our experienced, English-speaking guide will share stories of the coast's rich history — from ancient spice traders and Portuguese galleons to the resilient communities that call this shoreline home today.

Galle Fort — A Living Piece of History

No southern journey is complete without wandering the cobblestone streets of Galle Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site founded by the Portuguese in the 16th century and fortified by the Dutch a hundred years later. Inside its massive ramparts you'll find a charming maze of boutique cafés, art galleries, gem museums, and colonial villas draped in bougainvillea. Walk the fort walls at sunset, watch local cricket matches on the esplanade below, and catch the famous cliff jumpers leaping from the bastions into the turquoise water. There is time to explore at your own pace — browse for handmade lace and sapphires, sip fresh king coconut, or simply soak in the atmosphere of one of the best-preserved colonial fortresses in the world.

Beaches Made for Slowing Down

From the wide, family-friendly sands of Unawatuna to the crescent-shaped bay of Mirissa, each beach on this tour has its own personality. Swim in calm, reef-protected waters, learn to surf on gentle beginner waves, or claim a shaded spot beneath the coconut palms with a good book. In the evenings, beachfront restaurants grill the day's catch right on the sand — expect butter-soft tuna, jumbo prawns, and traditional Sri Lankan curries served under a sky full of stars. For the iconic photo, we'll visit the stilt fishermen of Koggala and the famous palm-lined viewpoints that have made this coastline a favourite of travellers and photographers alike.

Whales, Turtles and Tropical Wildlife

Mirissa is one of the best places on Earth to see blue whales — the largest animals ever to have lived. In season (November to April), we set out at dawn on an optional whale-watching cruise for the chance to spot blue whales, sperm whales, and playful pods of spinner dolphins. Back on land, we visit a community sea-turtle hatchery to learn about conservation efforts protecting five species of turtles that nest along these shores, and if the timing is right you may help release hatchlings into the waves at dusk — a moment our guests never forget.

Comfort, Safety and Local Knowledge

Travel in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle with a professional driver-guide who knows every hidden gem along the coast — the quiet lagoon perfect for a morning kayak, the family-run spice garden, the roadside stall with the island's best isso wade. Accommodation is hand-picked for cleanliness, character, and location, and the itinerary is flexible: whether you want more beach time, more culture, or more adventure, we shape each day around you.

Whether you are a medical elective student looking for the perfect weekend escape, a couple in search of sunsets, or a group of friends chasing surf and seafood, the Southern Beach Tour delivers the very best of Sri Lanka's coast in one seamless, worry-free journey. Pack light, bring your camera, and let the southern shore do the rest.
